The Metal Fabrication Lead Hand is a leadership role in the fabrication department, responsible for overseeing and coordinating the work of a team of fabricators, ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency in the fabrication process. They act as a liason between the fabrication team and the Supervisor(s), providing guidance, training, and support to team members while ensuring adherence to production schedules and quality standards.
JOBRESPONSIBILITIES
- Hands on leadership role, performing brake press set-up, MIG welding, spot welding.
- Supervising and directing the work of up to three (3) team members, delegating tasks, and ensuring efficient workflow within the fabrication area.
- Read and interpret equipment blueprints, fabrications, and drawings.
- Monitoring the quality of fabricated parts and assemblies, ensuring they meet specifications and standards.
- Assisting with production schedules, coordinating with other departments, and troubleshooting production issues.
- Enforcing safety regulations and procedures, promoting a safe working environment, and ensuring team members adhere to safety protocols.
- Providing training and guidance to team members on fabrication techniques, safety procedures, and quality control.
- Identifying areas for improvement and suggesting solutions to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Performing other related tasks as assigned by management.
- Minimum five (5) years of lead hand or supervisory experience in a metal manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in various fabrication techniques, including welding, cutting, bending, and assembly.
- Demonstrated proficiency reading and interpretation of blueprints and fabrication drawings.
- Certificate of Qualification from an accredited related college/trade program an asset.
- Current valid forklift licence required.
- Demonstrated ability to use hand tools, measuring tools, vernier calipers, etc.
- Experience with ABB robotics an asset.
- Experience with Outlook, Excel, Word and Windows O/S.
- Excellent English communication skills, verbal and written.
- Ability to identify and resolve fabrication and production issues efficiently.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team, communicate effectively, and provide clear instructions.
- Professional work ethic, flexible, highly motivated and detail oriented.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations and quality procedures.
