Infrastructure Ontario (IO), an Ontario crown corporation, provides a wide range of services to support the Ontario government’s initiative to modernize and maximize the value of public infrastructure and realty. Position
Purpose:
IO’s communications team plays an integral role not only in promoting the work across IO, but also supporting that work directly by building community awareness and support, advising clients and contractors on communications strategies and execution, and supporting the overall corporate communications of a dynamic and complex organization.
What You Will Do:
Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), the VP Communications will be responsible for the communications team’s many responsibilities, including:
- Lead a Communications team capable of promoting and protecting the corporate reputation of Infrastructure Ontario as a leading place to work and exemplar of excellence in delivering projects and programs on behalf of the Government of Ontario.
- Create a strategic plan and renewed approach to IO’s communications, identifying core interests, key stakeholders and most effective approaches to convey our message in a complex, high scrutiny environment.
- Work closely with IO’s CEO, CSO and Executive Management Team on results and outcomes against a strategic communications and external relations plan.
- Manage the Communications team budget, procurements, expenses and accountability requirements in accordance with the delegations of authority.
- Lead the creation and implementation of an Annual Communications and External Relations schedule, including community engagement and industry stakeholder engagement.
- Direct proactive communications that promote and support high profile initiatives such as the Market Update and other corporate priorities.
- Organize and evaluate IO’s public speaking opportunities including speeches for the CEO and other members of the executive and senior management teams.
- Build IO’s corporate brand and reputation by developing and delivering content through various channels including the web site, intranet and social media.
- Collaborate with the leadership of Strategic Enterprise Services to manage and improve IO’s external relationships in a consistent fashion that achieves the organization’s priorities.
- Direct the planning and implementation of internal communications in partnership with key internal clients.
- Oversee the corporate relationship with industry associations and their leadership in the spirit of maintaining dynamic, open and timely exchange of information and perspectives.
- Serve as IO’s leader and contact for media relations.
- Motivate, coach and mentor the communications team members by setting high standards including those in performance goals and professional development plans.
What You Will Need
- Expertise as a senior communications team leader
- Experience in a fast-paced environment in leading large, complex communications initiatives with multiple stakeholders.
- Proven ability in the creation of communication strategies, with key deliverables to achieve organizational interests.
- Demonstrated accountability for leading the development of integrated communications strategies in support of strategic directions and initiatives of an organization.
- Previous experience working within, or with, the Provincial Government.
- Proven ability to align and re-align complex communications project plans in response to constantly changing directions and priorities.
