The opportunity
We currently have an exciting full-time, permanent opportunity for a Director, Business Development. The Director, Business Development is a senior executive responsible for driving sustainable, mission-aligned revenue growth across MODC’s social enterprise, fee‑for‑service programs, and related commercial initiatives. This role ensures that all revenue‑generating activities are financially viable, scalable, and strategically aligned with MODC’s charitable mission.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Director will:
- Lead the organization in evaluating, optimizing, and expanding commercial initiatives that support MODC’s mission.
- Conduct comprehensive audits of existing programs and fee‑for‑service activities to inform strategic decisions and identify areas for growth.
- Analyze market opportunities and emerging trends to develop scalable revenue streams aligned with MODC’s social impact goals.
- Build strategic partnerships and alliances that create sustainable, long‑term value.
- Oversee operational integration to ensure revenue initiatives align with program delivery.
- Build, mentor and manage a high‑performing Business Development team, fostering accountability, innovation, and alignment with MODC’s mission.
- Ensure that commercial initiatives are aligned with marketing, brand positioning, and communications strategies to maximize visibility and stakeholder engagement.
- Provide actionable insights and present strategic recommendations and performance reports to the COO, the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), and, when called upon, the Board of Directors to inform decision‑making and risk assessment.
The Director is a mission‑driven leader who transforms business development into a strategically aligned, financially sustainable engine for social impact.
Responsibilities
Strategic Business Development & Revenue Growth
- Collaborate with the Executive Directors of MODC’s two mission‑focused areas—Community Support Services (CSS) and Skills Development & Employment (SDE)—and their respective leadership teams to develop and implement MODC’s 3‑year commercial growth strategy.
- Conduct a comprehensive audit of existing programs and fee‑for‑service activities, evaluating financial performance, operational efficiency, client outcomes, and mission alignment. Use findings to identify opportunities for optimization, scaling, or strategic repositioning.
- Analyze market opportunities, including insurance, employer, school, government, and community sectors, to identify unmet needs, emerging trends, and potential revenue streams aligned with MODC’s mission.
- Identify disruptive and emerging trends to inform long‑term strategic growth and program innovation.
- Prioritize revenue opportunities by financial impact, operational readiness, social mission alignment, and potential to support multi‑year fundraising goals.
- Design business models, pricing strategies, and value propositions informed by audit results, market insights, and strategic foresight.
- Conduct market segmentation, competitor benchmarking, and opportunity sizing for both existing and new program areas.
