The team

Toronto Metropolitan University Housing and Residence Life maintains an extensive Residence Life and Operations program. Our Operations and Administration team supports the on-going development of community for Residence students through the department's functional areas including residence admissions, finance, facilities, desk operations and summer hotel. Our ultimate goal is to create a community in which students can live and learn in a safe and supportive environment.

The Opportunity

As a key member of the Residence Management Team, the Residence Life Manager, Programming oversees the implementation of academic initiatives and residence-wide activities under the direction of the Associate Director. The role leads the day-to-day operations of the Living-Learning Communities, supporting university-wide academic success programs and collaborating with the Residence Life management team to deliver coordinated and impactful programming across residence.

This position is responsible for the recruitment, hiring, training, performance management, and professional development of Academic Links (ALs), Academic Link Leads (AL-Ls), and Graduate Advisors (GAs). The incumbent also manages residence community crisis situations, ensuring timely response, appropriate escalation, and effective resolution while on site and during on-call rotations.

This position requires the incumbent to live and work in an assigned on-campus residence. The role involves regular interaction with students and may require managing complex or challenging situations. Equal participation in a 24-hour on-call rotation is required. This position is designated as an essential service role and may require attendance on campus during university closures, including but not limited to emergency or weather-related closures.

On-call responsibilities are compensated in accordance with the MAC and Non-union Pay Schedule.

Residence Life Managers will be provided with a two-bedroom apartment within residence at a discounted rental rate.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manages the development, implementation, and assessment of the Residence learning activities and programming conducted by the Academic Links and Academic Link Leads, including informational and themed sessions that focus on the development of strong residence communities.
  • Actively engages with campus stakeholders. Establishes, fosters and maintains partnerships with campus partners within Student Affairs and across the university.
  • Participates in Student Affairs committees and collaborates with units across Student Affairs to provide residence specific initiatives that further Student Affairs priorities such as support of equity deserving students.
  • Addresses emergency situations and establishes immediate intervention measures with campus partners, including Community Safety and Security and Student Wellbeing Services including counselling services, when on-call.
  • Provides on-call emergency support including communicating, reporting, and escalating issues to appropriate contacts. Escalates high level concerns to Associate Director on-call for collaborative response and to support coordinated communication to senior leadership.
