Job Description

To provide leadership to and oversee the execution of the strategy for the health and safety team, ensuring alignment with the organization’s long-term strategy. Develops and administers health and safety procedures and training programs and ensures compliance with overall company guidelines and regulations. Acts as a senior resource on health and safety issues and participates in business and / or project planning by offering technical expertise.

Ensures continued growth of the team through maximizing operational efficiencies and profitability. This position may be at the corporate, regional or site level and will be focused in one of, or a combination of the following areas: health, safety, hygiene and / or environment.

Job Responsibilities
  • Model company values and set the tone for a positive safety culture.
  • Promote and apply professional and ethical standards.
  • Support maintenance and improvement of the Company H&S (Safety & Sustainability) audit program including audit procedures, budgeting, planning, training, organization, scheduling, communications, coordination, contracting and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure roles & responsibilities are clearly defined, effectively communicated, and adhered to for H&S at all Kinross activities.
  • Works with contract owners to ensure appropriate H&S requirements are included in contracts.
  • Provide technical support and advice regarding compliance with Company policies, legal requirements, and commitments.
  • Support development and implementation of processes for monitoring, measuring, and evaluating H&S performance and to ensure that audit and assurance and follow up work is completed in accordance with agreed plans, is subject to appropriate quality assurance procedures, and is reported to senior management, promptly, accurately, and completely.
  • Facilitate or support project risk assessments, studies, and reviews to ensure safety is designed in at the earliest opportunity and critical risks are mitigated through sound engineering practices.
  • Confirm adequacy of Company and Business Partner emergency response plans, training, and drills.
  • Ensure adequate medical facilities and resources are available to support all work locations and activities.
  • Provide H&S coaching and mentoring to line management and H&S staff to build capacity.
  • Facilitate or participate in operational learning teams to improve the understanding of variability between work as planned and work as done.
  • Conduct site visits to verify correct application of Company H&S requirements. Provide recommendations for improvement when shortfalls identified and follows up on close out of actions
  • Review camp conditions for H&S, housekeeping, sanitation, hygiene, including special protocols.
  • Facilitate H&S risk management workshops and reviews to ensure quality is high.
