The Opportunity
Pathways is seeking an accomplished Chief Operating Officer (COO) to provide strategic and operational leadership to the organization. Reporting to the President & CEO and working closely with the Chief Development Officer and Chief Impact Officer, the COO is responsible for driving the organization’s overall performance, growth, and success through operational excellence.
As the most senior operational and financial leader, the COO oversees a range of functions and processes including finance, planning, governance, risk, legal, and human resources. The role is accountable for strategic and business planning, including oversight of financial strategies, annual budgeting, operational plans, and performance metrics, ensuring the organization translates strategic priorities into measurable results. The COO also provides executive oversight of Board governance processes, maintaining effective reporting, administration, and compliance.
Leading human resources strategy and operations, the COO ensures that the organization’s policies, practices, and leadership approaches foster a positive and inclusive workplace. A champion for continuous improvement, they will optimize the functioning of Pathways’ internal operations by strengthening cross‑functional integration, streamlining business processes, promoting data‑driven decision‑making, and leveraging technology.
The Successful Candidate
Pathways’ COO will be an adaptable business leader who balances operational discipline with a long‑term strategic perspective. A collaborative leadership style, excellent communication skills (English/French bilingualism preferred), and an authentic commitment to social impact and Pathways’ mission are essential.
The successful candidate will bring a minimum of ten years of progressive senior leadership experience with responsibility for multiple functions, along with a post‑secondary degree in a related discipline, with an MBA and/or CPA designation preferred. They will demonstrate strong financial acumen, experience working with Boards in a non‑profit or charitable context, and a track record of developing and leading people in a high‑performing, mission‑driven culture.
