Your opportunity:
The Acceleration Consortium (AC) at the University of Toronto (U of T) is leading a transformative shift in scientific discovery that will accelerate technology development and commercialization. The AC is a global community of academia, industry, and government that leverages the power of artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, materials sciences, and high-throughput chemistry to create self-driving laboratories (SDLs), also called materials acceleration platforms (MAPs).
These autonomous labs rapidly design materials and molecules needed for a sustainable, healthy, and resilient future, with applications ranging from renewable energy and consumer electronics to drugs.
The Acceleration Consortium received a $200M Canadian First Research Excellence Grant for seven years to develop self-driving labs for chemistry and materials, the largest ever grant to a Canadian University. This grant will give the Acceleration Consortium seven years of funding to execute its vision.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Associate Director, Marketing & Communications leads and coordinates the work of staff in the proactive development, enhancement and successful execution of marketing, communications and public relations activities and events. Areas of focus include developing and enhancing the Consoutium’s Communications strategy and increasing overall awareness of the Acceleration Consortium, including leveraging data tools, techniques, and strategies.
The Associate Director, Marketing & Communications champions developing and promoting a strong, cohesive, and effective brand identity while ensuring the Institute’s objectives align with the University of Toronto’s broader strategic priorities.
This is a term position that will end approximately in Feb 2027.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing a comprehensive and integrated communications, marketing and media strategy; developing and implementing communications and marketing plans to support business development and revenue-generating strategies and/or activities
- Determining the best materials and methods to be used to promote the Institute's strengths and achievements to the media, including opportunities to clarify information about a particular subject or issue
- Advising on marketing best practices and brand-building opportunities to the leadership team
- Advising senior leaders before media interviews to ensure that they are properly informed and prepared and that appropriate information is communicated
- Liaising with stakeholders of strategic importance to facilitate collaboration and consistency of communications
- Producing promotional and outreach materials to increase brand awareness
- Determining the resource requirements for specific marketing and communications projects
- Directing the activities of a group of staff-appointed employees all performing a similar function, assigning tasks to staff based on understanding of needs and availability of resources

Qualifications:
