OpportunityWe are seeking a trusted, strategic, and facilitative leader to serve as Vice‑President, Cross‑Community Leadership & Engagement
. In this unique role, you will lead the implementation of UJA’s resilience agenda by strengthening trust across institutions and ideologies, cultivating crisis readiness, and supporting communal leadership in navigating today’s complex challenges.
This position reports to the Senior Vice‑President, Community Capacity Building.
Responsibilities- Community Cohesion & Convening – Lead initiatives to foster community cohesion and trust, including the Leading in Complexity, Together Summit and related programs. Act as a neutral convener to guide constructive dialogue among institutional leaders and stakeholders with differing ideological perspectives. Develop tools, decision‑support, and engagement strategies to help UJA navigate ideological tension with clarity and consistency. Facilitate and broker conversations during moments of communal strain.
- Crisis Readiness & Community Resilience – Design and coordinate a community‑wide crisis preparedness approach encompassing scenario planning, institutional protocols, advisory networks, and leadership working groups. Partner with internal departments and external partners to ensure cohesive, proactive readiness across the Jewish community. Lead simulations, debriefs, and capacity‑building efforts to strengthen crisis leadership. Partner with the Research team to develop indicators and benchmarks for communal resilience and crisis responsiveness.
- Institutional Leadership Development (UJA Leadership Labs) – Oversee the rollout of UJA Leadership Labs, a practical support hub for executive leaders across the Jewish institutional landscape. Coordinate expert networks and peer forums to co‑develop and disseminate policy templates, governance tools, and compliance resources. Support institutions in building stronger internal structures around safety, board governance, financial practices, and crisis communication. Track usage, satisfaction, and policy adoption metrics to ensure continuous improvement and value.
Qualifications
- 7–10+ years of progressive leadership experience in community engagement, community development, strategy, nonprofit management, or institutional support.
- Deep knowledge of Jewish community dynamics, including ideological diversity and the organizational landscape in Toronto and globally.
- Passionate advocate and visible champion of UJA’s mission, values, and goals, inspiring others through action and unwavering commitment.
- Demonstrated experience in facilitating cross‑stakeholder initiatives, especially in sensitive or high‑stakes contexts.
- Proven ability to broker dialogue and facilitate sensitive conversations with tact, neutrality, and insight across ideological or institutional lines.
- Strong project execution and systems thinking skills; able to lead initiatives from strategy to implementation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort leading workshops, training sessions, and drafting public‑facing materials.
- Confidence and credibility in working with senior leaders, funders, and subject‑matter experts.
- Experience in developing governance tools, institutional supports, or policy frameworks is an asset.
- High degree of discretion, emotional intelligence, cultural sensitivity, and collaborative mindset.
- Commitment to UJA’s vision, values, and the broader vitality of Jewish communal life.
- Ability to coach, influence, and build capacity in others.
- Experience in crisis planning, organizational resilience, or reputational risk management.
- Familiarity with governance, compliance, or institutional operations in the nonprofit or public sectors.
