The Taylor Statten Camps is Canada’s oldest fourth generational family-run traditional summer camp. We are located on Canoe Lake in Algonquin Provincial Park. The camp is made up of Camp Wapomeo for Girls and Camp Ahmek for Boys. Our camper’s age varies from 6 – 16.

Maintenance Staff

Job description:

Camp Ahmek and Camp Wapomeo have a roster of maintenance staff reporting to the Head of Maintenance. The team is responsible for the start-up, shutdown and operation of the physical facilities on Canoe Lake. This process begins in April and ends in October each year. This position is responsible for a variety of tasks as part of the Maintenance Team. This includes but is not limited to:

  • water Testing
  • Door and window repair; screen repair; porch and deck building and repair
  • Asphalt shingling
  • Cabin construction
  • Stair building
  • Dock building and repair- floating and crib style; crib repair
  • Construction of wood shelving and other camp craft supplies
  • Supervision of small groups of university aged staff during spring and fall work crews
  • In addition, general maintenance duties are also required from time to time and include tasks like cleaning, garbage removal etc.

    Plumbing skills are also considered an asset as well as small engine maintenance (oil changes, troubleshooting etc).

    Must be able to operate small motor boats (training can occur at camp).

    Qualifications/

    Job Requirements:

  • 2 plus years of maintenance OR enrollment in an Engineering-type course in College or University
  • Pleasure Craft Operating License (boat license) is an asset
  • Driver’s ‘G’ License is an asset
  • Compensation varies depending on the qualifications and experience of the applicant but starts at minimum wage. It is an hourly rate based on 40 to 44 hours per week.

    All positions include free room, board, laundry and use of facilities.

    This is an annually recurring 6 to 8 month contract position with satisfactory performance OR it can be just mid June till end of August if necessary.

    Dates of employment: early May through to early October inclusive.
