Position SummaryWe are seeking a highly motivated and detail‑oriented Purchasing Agent to ensure the timely and cost‑effective acquisition of materials, components and services. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong understanding of supply‑chain and procurement processes.
KeyDuties & Responsibilities
- Source, negotiate, and procure materials, components and services in accordance with project requirements, ensuring compliance with specifications and defence regulations.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, fostering partnerships that guarantee reliability, quality and competitiveness.
- Negotiate terms, conditions and pricing to secure the best possible agreements while mitigating risks and ensuring budget adherence.
- Continuously evaluate and improve supply‑chain processes to identify cost savings, efficiency gains and risk mitigation opportunities.
- Conduct market research to stay informed about industry trends, pricing and material availability.
- Ensure all procurement activities comply with industry regulations, local and global company policies, and maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Project Management, Quality Assurance and other internal and group teams to align procurement strategies with project goals and timelines.
- Identify potential supply‑chain risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure continuity and reliable supply.
- Degree in Business or equivalent work experience.
- BS/BA in Supply Chain Management or equivalent work experience.
- Experience in manufacturing purchasing and/or inventory management.
- Ability to travel internationally.
- Valid driving licence.
- Holding security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
- Understanding of US ITAR and Canada’s Controlled Goods Program.
- Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
- Experience with procurement software, MRP systems and Microsoft Office.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with multinational defence environments and multicultural, global customer bases.
- Understanding of drawing nomenclature, engineering terminology and raw material & manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of cross‑border supply‑chain and logistics.
- Capability to conduct supplier audits.
- Detail‑oriented, organised, positive attitude, and self‑motivated.
- Variety in day‑to‑day work across lab and office settings.
- Exposure to R&D and production environments and activities.
- Exposure to automotive and defence industry processes.
- Potential for collaborative work, field work and travel to other Horstman sites or customer sites.
