Overview

Life After Law is Canada’s trusted Legal Search Authority. Our client, a collegial litigation firm with a focus on insurance defence litigation, is looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Law Clerk or Paralegal to join their team. This is a full-time position ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative legal environment and takes pride in accuracy, organization, and client service.

Responsibilities
  • Advising clients on legal proceedings
  • Interviewing clients, witnesses and other related parties
  • Performing clerical duties, such as maintaining filing systems
  • Scheduling discoveries, motions, mediations, and pre-trials between counsel, clients, and the courts
  • Researching records, court files and other legal documents
  • Drafting legal correspondence
  • Administering oaths, taking affidavits, and depositions
  • Supporting lawyers in preparing for mediations and judicial dispute resolution sessions
  • Coordinating and monitoring procedural timelines to ensure compliance with court rules
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential client files and legal records
  • Communicating proactively with clients to provide updates and manage expectations
  • Collaborating with lawyers and staff to ensure high-quality file management
Qualifications
  • Completion of a Law Clerk or Paralegal Program with certificate
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in civil litigation (More experience welcomed!)
  • Strong knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure
  • Strong drafting skills, efficiency, and effective case handling
  • Experience with electronic filing and court systems (e.g., Case Centre) is essential
  • Defense-side experience is not required, but familiarity with litigation workflows is expected
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and case management software for scheduling and document preparation
  • Reliable, client-focused, and able to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Recognized for accuracy, file ownership, and proactive case management
