Salary Range60k-72k
The salary range for this role reflects the consideration of a variety of factors including but not limited to an individual’s skills, experience, qualifications, work location, work arrangement, licensure and certifications, and applicable laws. Placement within the range will vary based on these factors, and compensation decisions are made to ensure internal equity and alignment with market data.
Role DescriptionThe Immigration Specialist will be responsible for managing end-to-end immigration processes, including advising clients on immigration matters and the preparation and submission of applications within our Temporary Residence team. Duties include staying current with immigration laws and policies, collaborating with legal teams, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Duties- Assess appropriate temporary residence category in collaboration with Canadian legal representatives;
- Communicate with employers, applicants and third parties to obtain documents required for application;
- Researching applicable processes and requirements for different types of temporary applications;
- Draft, review and proofread forms, correspondence and supporting materials for use in immigration applications for review by legal representative;
- Finalize and assist in submitting applications to various government agencies;
- Manage all timelines, from case initiation to finalization, including regular updates to the client and initiating follow ups on all assigned applications that are in progress;
- Monitor and follow up on applications in progress;
- Correspond directly with clients, HR contacts and government agencies when required;
- Review forms and documents provided by clients and provide feedback;
- Review and discuss ongoing changes to immigration legislation and procedure with team;
- Manage a large number of files relating to Canadian immigration;
- Ensure all emails and voice messages are responded to within a timely manner;
- Perform various administrative tasks, as needed; and
- Implement firm-approved technological upgrades and innovative tools where applicable.
- Must be authorized to work in Canada
- At least 3 years of full time experience in immigration law and policy
- Experience drafting submissions for temporary Canadian immigration applications, such as, work permits, with focus on intra-company transfers, CUSMA/CETA/CUKTCA/CPTPP etc., LMIAs, study permits, temporary resident visas, visitor records, and criminal inadmissibility applications;
- Broad depth of knowledge related to Canadian immigration categories/streams
- Follow documented firm standards and policies to mitigate risk and ensure regulatory, operational and client compliance (e.g., following Data Privacy protocols, using CRM database accurately and in line with team and client protocols, etc.)
- Attention to detail and the ability to manage complex documentation with accuracy
- Exceptional communication and client service skills
- Experience in managing high-volume caseloads efficiently and effectively
- Capable of working both independently and as part of a team, remaining calm when under pressure
- Paralegals and CICC licensed practitioners also strongly encouraged to apply
- Understand and contribute to team and individual productivity goals
- Demonstrate flexibility and initiative
- Work experience in a corporate immigration law firm setting
- A diploma or degree in Law, Immigration Studies, or related fields
- Ability to communicate professionally in French
- Experience with Quebec-based immigration
- Ability to speak a second language in addition to English
- Experience supporting litigation files
