Position Summary:

The Underwriter – P&C Programs manages a portfolio of Commercial Property, Casualty and related program products for accounts ranging from SME to high-TIV business. The Underwriter fosters strong relationships with partner brokers and MGAs, delivers excellent service and ensures the sound underwriting of referral business under delegated authority arrangements. The Underwriter is tasked with nurturing existing partner relationships and developing new relationships in order to grow the book while maintaining underwriting discipline with a strong focus on profitability.

The Underwriter is experienced in making sound underwriting decisions based on individual risk characteristics, exposure analysis, hazard recognition and controls within their individual underwriting authority framework. This position is intended for a candidate seeking learning experiences and growth opportunity in a dynamic organization.

The candidate must be self-motivated with a strong entrepreneurial work ethic and attention to detail.  The Underwriter – P&C Programs reports to the Head of Programs Underwriting. The position is located in Toronto, ON but consideration will be given for qualified candidates.
** Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
*** Solicit and review new and renewal account information required to evaluate a risk
* Underwrite and price products, to include internal control and exposure analysis
* Underwrite, price and prepare proposals based on objective and subjective risk characteristics and input from various internal departments
* Operate within Arch Underwriting Guidelines and individual Underwriting Authority Statement
* Take responsibility for delivering excellent service to partner brokers and MGAs
* Manage book to achieve targeted policy retention, rate and profitability
* Develop, expand, and enhance broker and client relationships through high external visibility and frequent broker engagement
* Collaborate with Program Management Team to deliver presentations to partners on book performance and recommend profitability enhancements, language revisions or changes to underwriting approach
* Collaboration with internal stakeholders including Claims, Ceded Re, Actuarial and Programs Management in conjunction with the Head of Programs Underwriting

* Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook

* Education:

*** Bachelor’s Degree
* Must have 3+ years of P&C insurance underwriting or broking experience#LI-LH1#LI-hybrid

For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.
85, CAD
* Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
