To support our continued growth and success, we are seeking a Sr. Biz Ops Database Administrator to join our team and help take on new projects. The role will report to the Manager of Biz Ops and will work closely with the architectural, development & operational teams in the reliable, secure delivery. The role will focus on scalability, security, availability, and performance.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record operating Software as a Service (SaaS) platform in a production environment, ideally within the ecommerce space. They will possess a wide variety of technical experience covering database administration, database deployment, systems administration, and cloud administration. A well-honed instinct for security and reliability is a must.
Responsibilities- Extensive experience in configuring, patching, upgrading, and optimizing database software and related components.
- Strong hands-on experience with IBM DB2, Snowflake and Postgre
SQL databases. - Proficient in PL/SQL, SQL tuning, and query optimization.
- Skilled in Linux/Unix environments and shell scripting.
- Ability to develop automation scripts using Shell, PL/SQL, and other tools.
- Familiar with cloud platforms and managed database services.
- Monitor and optimize database performance, implementing tuning strategies for queries, indexes, and overall system efficiency.
- Strong background in security, backup/recovery, architecture, networking, and database administration.
- Contribute to the development, maintenance, testing, implementation, and support of database technologies and associated products.
- Execute database schema and code changes, perform bottleneck analysis, and ensure efficient server/database performance, including recovery and restores when needed.
- Proactively monitor and resolve database issues, ensuring timely root cause analysis and remediation.
- Solid understanding of DDL creation and implementation to support development efforts.
- Knowledge of database security concepts, including users, roles, and privileges.
- Familiarity with cloud-based database administration and related concepts.
- Collaborate with technology teams and stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions.
- Strong performance tuning skills with the ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve database performance issues.
- Plan for system growth and scalability to accommodate future requirements.
- Ensure compliance with vendor license agreements to maintain legal and operational integrity.
- Handle various reporting and data export/import tasks, working with different formats like CSV, XML, and unstructured data.
- Adhere to change management, problem management, and incident management processes.
- Ability to manage moderate to large projects or initiatives within the database domain.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to advocate for database best practices, governance, standards, and procedures.
- Work efficiently within a high security environment (PCI-DSS Level 1 certified)
- Strong documentation skills to maintain and enhance DBA processes and guidelines.
- Recommend and implement process improvements for optimal performance and efficiency.
- Capable of planning and coordinating complex technical efforts across teams.
- Contribute to organizational best practices for database planning, implementation, and maintenance.
- Ability to mentor and train junior team members.
- Work effectively in a global, collaborative environment with cross-functional teams.
- Provide on-call support during after-hours and weekends as required.
- 5+ years of DB2 or Postgre
SQL database administration experience - 2+ years of Snowflake data warehouse administration and development experience
- Experience working with cloud PaaS database services.
- Experience supporting highly available and fault tolerant systems.
- Participate in on-call shifts, our infrastructure runs 24/7
- Security knowledge & experience (Ex. Database Encryption/masking/Certificates/PKI/SSH/VPN)
- Expert problem solver by applying problem analysis methodologies.
- Computer Science or Engineering degree or equivalent experience
