The Systems Support Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day resolution of issues and requests (tickets) escalated from Systems Support [Tier 1] as well as the monitoring and maintenance of all workstations and peripherals within the Blue Ant Media network as pertains to hardware, operating systems, and application software. The Systems Support Engineer is also responsible for keeping inventory up to date, ensuring all software licenses are properly recorded, as well as keeping physical assets organized.
This role will report to the Director, Systems Support. and is a hybrid position requiring in-office attendance at our head office in Toronto for a minimum of three (3) days per week.
The anticipated salary range for this role is $70,000 - $76,000 per year, with final compensation determined by experience and qualifications.
Core Responsibilities & Duties- Provide day-to-day IT support for artists, production staff, and office teams (hardware, software, and network issues)
- Install, configure, and maintain workstations (Windows, macOS, Linux) used for animation, VFX, broadcast and production workflows
- Maintain, and troubleshoot studio network infrastructure (LAN/WAN, switches, firewalls, VPNs)
- Support creative software such as Maya, Blender, Houdini, Adobe Creative Suite, Nuke, Unreal Engine, or similar tools
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access across systems (Active Directory, LDAP, cloud services Entra/Google Suite) and enforce security across production systems
- Assist Tier 3 with monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot servers, storage, and render farm infrastructure
- Assist with deployment and maintenance of production pipelines and shared storage systems (NAS/SAN)
- Assist Senior Engineers maintaining system security, backups, patching, and disaster recovery processes
- Document procedures, troubleshooting steps, and system configurations
- Collaborate effectively within a team-based environment and across IT functions with Tier 1 and Tier 3
- Deploy automations via scripting (Power Shell, Bash, Python)
- Collaborate with pipeline TDs and developers on tool integration and workflow improvements
- Perform additional duties as required
- 4+ years’ experience as a Systems Administrator or similar role
- Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Networking, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience
- CompTIA Network+ certification (or equivalent practical experience) and strong understanding and application of ITIL practices
- Experience with shared storage systems and high-performance file systems
- Effective communication skills and the ability to ensure a consistently high level of customer satisfaction
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Strong knowledge of Windows and macOS environments (Linux experience is a plus)
- Experience supporting hardware (workstations, laptops, peripherals) in a professional environment
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs)
- Familiarity with server virtualization (VMware, Hyper‑V, or similar)
- Knowledge/experience working with Microsoft Intune or Iru (Kandji)
- Experience and knowledge of graphics and animation applications a bonus
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
