Cards Mainframe Developer

Position: Cards Mainframe Developer (contract)
We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Developer with 6–8 years of hands-on expertise in mainframe technologies and solid knowledge of card issuing domain processes. The ideal candidate will be proficient in COBOL, JCL, VSAM, DB2, and Unix scripting, with a strong understanding of Agile practices and full SDLC execution.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, enhance, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, VSAM, and DB2.

Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues in mainframe systems.

Optimize mainframe applications for performance, stability, and efficiency.

Support testing cycles, including defect triage and resolution.

Participate in release management and deployment activities.

Technical Leadership & Quality Assurance

Provide technical solutions and contribute to architectural decisions.

Conduct thorough code reviews, enforce coding standards, and ensure high-quality deliverables.

Create, update, and maintain technical documentation, including technical specs and functional designs.

Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the project lifecycle.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

Collaborate closely with business analysts, QA teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver successful outcomes.

Translate business needs into effective technical solutions aligned with domain requirements.

Support and mentor junior team members and contribute to team productivity improvements.

Participate actively in Agile ceremonies and continuously improve development processes.

Domain Expertise

Demonstrate strong knowledge of the Cards domain (Issuing).

Understand end-to-end Card lifecycle processes and how mainframe applications support them.

Continuous Improvement

Stay updated on emerging trends and technologies.

Recommend innovative ideas to improve system performance, processes, and development practices.

Required Skills

6–8 years of experience in Mainframe development.

Strong proficiency in COBOL, JCL, VSAM, DB2.

Hands-on experience with Unix scripting.

Solid understanding of Agile methodologies.

Good knowledge of Card Issuing domain and card lifecycle processes.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

The pay range that the employer in good faith reasonably expects to pay for this position is $28.65/hour - $44.77/hour. Our offered benefits include medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis.
