Purpose  The Director Engineering, Transaction Services is responsible for the engineering execution and delivery of technology solutions that support the Canadian Bank’s platforms. This role ensures the timely delivery, quality, resiliency, and operational excellence of platforms that support applications, processes and Client journeys for the Canadian Bank. The initial focus will be on the delivery of the Canadian Bank must win initiative.

The Director partners closely with business and product leads to align on requirements and priorities, delivering technical solutions that support strategic business outcomes. Reporting to the VP, this role plays a key part in translating vision into executable plans and ensuring those plans are delivered with a high level of quality, stability, and stakeholder alignment.

Responsible for the successful engineering delivery across Canadian Banking Products Engineering platforms in alignment with strategic priorities, while maintaining stability, scalability, and high performance of critical applications.
Partners with Canadian Banking business lines, including Digital Product, Client Experience, and Operations teams, to define and deliver robust technical solutions that support a best in class Client experiences.
Executes on the strategic roadmap, ensuring seamless transition from strategy to technical implementation, and fostering continuous feedback loops between engineering and the business.
Leads and manages end-to-end delivery of engineering initiatives, ensuring proper planning, execution, QA, deployment, and ongoing support for all releases.
Champions a client-focused engineering culture across the team, prioritizing value delivery, customer experience, and the secure, compliant operation of client-facing digital systems.
Drives engineering excellence by promoting best practices in coding, architecture, Dev Ops, CI/CD, observability, test automation, and incident response.
Builds a high-performance team, attracting, developing, and retaining top engineering talent. Fosters an inclusive and collaborative environment where continuous learning and innovation are encouraged.
Drives platform resiliency and operational readiness, ensuring application reliability through comprehensive monitoring, proactive issue identification, and thorough root cause analysis for incidents.
Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.
Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
Skills   University degree in Computer Engineering / Applied Science / Technology, or relevant work experience.
5+ years of Software Engineering experience.
5+ years of progressively increasing leadership experience in Information Technology management data, platform, and system(s) management.
Experience delivering complex, high-availability digital products at scale.
5+ years experience with Transaction Services applications including Switch platforms (Connex, IST Switch, +equivalent) and retail payment processing applications (KT, EF, AT), experience with Payment Networks (Visa, Interac, Amex) and with electronic banking and Debit/Credit card access control.
