Through its core values of Courage, Respect and Excellence, CAMH is implementing its Strategic Plan:
Connected CAMH, to transform lives, ignite innovation and discovery, revolutionize education and drive social change. CAMH is more than a hospital, it is a cause. CAMH is on a mission to change the way society thinks about and responds to mental illness. They aim to eliminate prejudice and discrimination and shape a world where mental illness is central to our healthcare system – a world where Mental Health is Health.

The AI in Mental Health — Epics Lab at the Krembil Centre for Neuroinformatics (KCNI) within the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), applies artificial intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to develop predictive models of mental health. Our mission is to accelerate understanding of mental illness and addiction, while advancing diagnosis, management, and therapeutic interventions. We integrate AI/ML, neuroinformatics, and high-performance computing (HPC) to enhance the reliability, reproducibility, and clinical relevance of neuroimaging and data-driven approaches in mental health research.
All our work is conducted in a collaborative, open-science environment.
We are seeking a full-time, contract (6 months) Scientific Associate, with strong experience in AI/ML research, numerical analysis, and scientific software development, to support a study focused on the numerical stability of AI models in longitudinal neuroimaging pipelines. The Scientific Associate will apply knowledge of AI/ML frameworks and methodologies in studies led by Principal Investigator (PI) in areas including, but not limited to: numerical analysis, Deep Learning, neuroimaging, as well as preparation of REB applications, protocols, standard operating procedures, research reports, grants, conference presentations, papers for publication, and other knowledge translation activities.
The Scientific Associate will also contribute to mentorship of staff and research trainees as appropriate.
Research application and ethics protocol submissions:
- Lead study activities, including the development of Research Ethics Board (REB) submissions, SOPs, case report forms, literature reviews, and project documentation.
- Support the PI’s funding strategy by contributing substantively to the writing and submission of grant applications.
- Liaise with clinicians, scientists, and internal/external collaborators during both proposal development and study execution.
- Ensure compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), regulatory standards, and institutional guidelines.
- Build and maintain reproducible AI/ML and neuroimaging pipelines for large-scale experimentation, ensuring robust data validation and quality control.
- Implement best practices for research software engineering, including version control (Git), modular design, documentation, and Continuous Integration (CI/CD).
- Establish and uphold quality assurance standards for data integrity, reporting consistency, and experiment traceability.
- Analyze data and lead the preparation of manuscripts, conference presentations, and other knowledge translation activities.
- Support grant preparation by defining methodology, feasibility arguments, and generating preliminary results.
General responsibilities:- Collaborate with the PI to plan and manage project timelines and work plans.
- Coordinate with relevant departments at CAMH, as well as collaborator and funder organizations.
- Monitor project budgets to ensure accurate expenditure tracking and timely reconciliation.
- Provide functional supervision, training, and mentorship to research staff and trainees, fostering a learning-focused culture.
- Maintain a work environment that embraces diversity and is free of harassment and discrimination.
- PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 1 year of relevant research experience (including postdoctoral training).
- Demonstrated expertise in AI/ML research, numerical analysis,…
