The Automation Test Engineer will work closely with the product owner and business analysts to understand the business functions and requirements.
The applicant should have excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to review requirements or stories and define and develop test strategy, test plan, test cases, defect management, and maximize automation (API/UI) in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures, to support our product and platform teams.
The identified candidate will work with multiple software development groups to help them deliver high‑quality products, create test automation strategies following industry best practices, continuously increase the level of automation, and help reduce time‑to‑market of new features.
Responsibilities- Conduct and adjust testing methods and practices to assess and evolve products.
- Design automation test approach and create automation scripts using Selenium or similar tools.
- Collaborate with the development team to decide where to build automated and manual tests, develop test data, and execute exploratory, system, regression, migration, back‑end, and user acceptance tests.
- Write clear and concise defect reports and advocate for the customer’s quality experience.
- Triage and prioritize defects for remediation.
- Conduct exploratory testing during each sprint to detect defects not captured by conventional methods.
- Automate processes within mainframe applications to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Build and design testing for automation, ensuring maintainability and readability.
- Recommend improvements to methodology, test environments, and workflow to promote an efficient and cost‑effective UAT process.
- Embed with development teams and infuse quality in every phase of the software development lifecycle.
- Participate in product design and requirements analysis, estimating work, scoping release deliverables, and prioritizing defects.
- Lead user‑centric testing initiatives and provide product team insights to improve the product.
- Create and execute acceptance criteria based on requirements, assessing usefulness of test cases, and adjusting approach where required.
- Troubleshoot problems and contribute to resolution in a hands‑on manner.
- University or College Degree in IT or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of QA lead experience.
- 4+ years of automation skills in VBScript, Java (Selenium), and JavaScript/Python.
- 3+ years of API automation experience.
- 6 years of testing experience in Software Quality Assurance.
- Working knowledge of the Canadian financial services industry.
- Strong communication skills and ability to provide guidance to support business objectives.
