The Automation Test Engineer works closely with product owners and business analysts to understand business functions and requirements, creating test strategies, plans, and automation solutions that improve time‑to‑market and quality.
Responsibilities- Conduct and adjust testing methods and practices to assess and evolve the product.
- Design automation test approach and create automation scripts using Selenium, aligning test cases to requirements and user stories.
- Decide where to build automated and manual tests, develop test data, construct and execute exploratory, system, regression, migration, back‑end, and user acceptance tests, and determine whether to create complex environments or major improvements for the automation framework.
- Write clear defect reports, advocate for the customer’s quality experience.
- Triage and prioritize defects for remediation with the development team.
- Conduct exploratory testing each sprint to detect defects not captured by conventional methods and facilitate testing workshops.
- Automate processes within mainframe applications to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Conduct functional tests and ensure readability, maintainability with reusable domain‑specific testing language components.
- Build and design testing for automation.
- Analyze best practices to recommend improvements to methodology, test environments, and workflow to promote efficient UAT process.
- Collaborate actively with the development team, embed quality in the software development lifecycle, providing continuous feedback on standards, user experience, performance issues, and future bugs.
- Participate in product design and requirements analysis, estimate work, scope release deliverables, prioritize defects and bugs.
- Lead user‑centric testing initiatives and provide product team insights to improve the product.
- Create and execute acceptance criteria based on requirements, assess usefulness of test cases, and adjust approach where required.
- Troubleshoot problems and contribute to resolution.
- University or college degree or equivalent experience in IT.
- 5+ years of QA lead experience.
- 4+ years of automation skills in VB script, Java (Selenium).
- 3+ years of API automation.
- 6 years of testing experience within the capacity of Software Quality Assurance.
- Working knowledge of Java, JavaScript, Python and other scripting languages.
- Knowledge of testing background in the Canadian financial services industry.
- Transfers knowledge and provides guidance to support business objectives.
- Contributes to an environment of continuous learning, sharing experience and learning across team members, peers, partners, and management as appropriate.
- Participates in identifying personal development needs and pursuing development/career opportunities.
- Adheres to established guidelines of conduct.
