About the Education CommonsThe Education Commons is a hub for technological innovation and information design work closely with major research and development initiatives to create, implement, and evaluate cutting‑edge digital environments that support OISE’s academic and research programs.
This OpportunityWorking under the general direction of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Director, Information Technology (IT) provides leadership with regard to information systems, processes and associated technology to support OISE’s academic mission and administrative operations. The Director, IT will provide strategic direction, lead the innovation efforts and play a role in experimenting with new solutions in support of teaching, learning, research, and administrative priorities.
In collaboration with academic and administrative leaders within the division and across the University, the Director, IT will manage the visioning, planning, budgeting, development and performance/effectiveness of the technical environment of OISE’s Information Technology department, the Education Commons, so that all hardware and software solutions are reliable, secure, user‑friendly, and meet the Faculty’s and university’s needs. Through extensive consultation, with internal and external community groups, the incumbent will provide strategic direction and oversight for the design, development, operation and support of IT systems and programs that fulfill the needs of the institute.
Through the leadership and direction of the EC Management team and senior EC staff, the Director, IT ensures the infrastructure services and academic support activities of the Education Commons are aligned to OISE’s mission. The incumbent maintains currency on new technologies and platforms and provides direction on emerging technologies to be assimilated, integrated and introduced within OISE to ensure IT capabilities respond to the needs defined in divisional and university academic plans.
The incumbent may be called upon to participate in divisional planning and problem‑solving in any domain and to act as a divisional representative, advocate, and liaison in University processes and community partnerships in the sphere of technology and information management. The Director, IT identifies opportunities for revenue generation and cost saving throughout all of these relationships, while maintaining and enhancing the division’s academic and administrative effectiveness.

EDUCATION:
A post graduate degree in the field of computer science, information systems, MBA or an equivalent combination of education and experience

EXPERIENCE:
- Eight or more years of senior IT divisional management experience.
- Proven success in leading IT planning, innovation, operations, project management and development across teams of 20 or more employees within complex organizations. Strong background in cybersecurity, responsible AI, risk management and compliance.
