Your opportunity

Under the general direction of the Manager, Administration & Finance and supervision of the School Business and Financial Officer, the incumbent oversees the payroll functions associated with faculty, staff, and students at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy. This includes all components of the payroll process, including reconciling payroll distribution, preparing payroll cost estimates, tracking and monitoring contract end-dates for casual staff, maintaining and updating pertinent information on digital systems, including HRIS, working with internal resources to resolve payroll and/or HRIS processing issues, and responding to enquiries or referring when needed.

The Payroll Officer will be responsible for ensuring all processing is aligned to appropriate policies and Collective Agreements.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as the first point of contact for payroll related enquiries. Keeping well-informed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements
  • Collecting supporting documentation required for payroll and/or HRIS processing, preparing contracts using templates
  • Entering salary and/or personnel information in HRIS. Collecting timesheet data and processing in the applicable systems.
  • Processing payroll.
  • Verifying that HRIS transactions are processed according to applicable policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements
  • Keeping well-informed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements
  • Reconciling payroll distribution
  • Preparing payroll cost estimates
  • Liaising with internal contacts to resolve payroll and/or HRIS processing issues
Qualifications
  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) in Finance or Accounting or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years of recent and related experience processing payroll transactions.
  • Knowledge and experience working with the University’s HR rules, guidelines and procedures, as well as payroll principles, and recent experience in applying it.
  • Experience identifying and resolving individual payroll discrepancies and bring forward for resolution.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with developing, maintaining and analyzing reports.
  • Experience processing payroll for unionized and non-unionized staff in an academic department.
  • Advanced skills with MS Office (e.g. Excel and Word) and database management.
