Affiliated with the University of Toronto, our 18‑bed psychiatric inpatient unit serves diverse populations, including adults (18+), geriatrics (65+), and antepartum/postpartum patients. We address a broad range of mental health diagnoses including mood, anxiety, psychosis and substance related disorders. Recognized as a leader in these areas, Mount Sinai is dedicated to a holistic approach where the "art" and "science" of nursing converge, ensuring comprehensive patient care.

- Apply the nursing process in the provision of holistic patient and family‑centred care that aligns with the patient’s identified goals for mental health and wellness.
- Provide comprehensive and accurate documentation of relevant mental and physical health assessments i.e. Mental Status Exam, Suicide Risk Assessments (C‑SSRS), head‑to‑toe assessments etc.
- Anticipate, recognise, and address rapidly changing situations
- Deliver comprehensive psychiatric nursing care to patients and families in a supportive and culturally sensitive manner
- Utilise psychiatric nursing interventions such as one‑to‑one meetings, activity groups, supporting the use of distress tolerance, grounding and other psychotherapeutic skills
- Collaborate with members of the interprofessional care team to develop and review patient care plans and work towards disposition planning
- Provide health‑related education to patients and families using effective teaching strategies that take into account the patient & family’s health literacy
