The Evening Nurse Manager is responsible for providing leadership, clinical oversight, and operational support during the 3pm–11pm shift. This role ensures high-quality resident care, compliance with regulatory standards, and effective coordination of nursing and personal support staff. The Evening Nurse Manager acts as the primary on-site clinical leader during evening hours and supports a safe, resident-centered environment aligned with the mission and values of the home.
Responsibilities- Leadership & Clinical Oversight – Provide on-site clinical leadership for RNs, RPNs, and PSWs during the evening shift; ensure resident care meets professional standards, LTC legislation, and organizational policies; respond to clinical concerns, incidents, or urgent situations with appropriate follow-up and documentation; support staff with resident assessments, care planning, and complex care needs.
- Staff Coordination & Support – Lead and support the evening care team, fostering a collaborative and positive culture; oversee staffing assignments and adjust care delivery based on acuity and resident needs; manage call-ins and coordinate replacement staff when required; coach and mentor staff, reinforcing best practices, safety standards, and person-centered care.
- Quality, Safety & Compliance – Ensure compliance with the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, RHRA regulations, IPAC standards, and Accreditation requirements; monitor documentation practices and support staff to maintain accurate and timely charting; conduct safety rounds and ensure adherence to infection prevention and control protocols; report and document incidents, falls, and unusual occurrences; complete preliminary investigations as needed; communicate relevant issues to the Director of Care and leadership team.
- Resident & Family Support – Maintain a compassionate and respectful approach when responding to resident and family concerns; promote a safe, dignified, and supportive environment for all residents; facilitate smooth transitions in care, including admissions and discharges occurring during the shift.
- Collaboration & Communication – Participate in shift handovers and ensure accurate communication of resident status and priority issues; work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams including dietary, recreation, housekeeping, and medical staff; escalate critical issues to leadership when required.
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Minimum 2–3 years of clinical experience in long-term care or a related healthcare setting
- Previous supervisory or charge nurse experience strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of LTC regulations, IPAC, and best practices in geriatric and dementia care
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure
- Proficient with electronic health records and documentation systems
