The Newborn Screening Team is part of a provincial network of healthcare professionals dedicated to providing outpatient care for newborns who test positive on a Newborn Screening Blood Test, which is conducted 24-48 hours after birth. This test is administered to all newborns in Ontario and screens for several rare but treatable medical conditions. The Sick Kids Newborn Screening Retrieval Team then performs assessments and diagnostic tests to confirm whether the newborn has the screened condition.

This is a particularly sensitive period for new parents, requiring compassion, empathy, and strong communication skills.

As a member of the Newborn Screening team, the Patient Care Information Coordinator plays a crucial role in the overall functioning of the clinic and in patient care coordination. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, creating the MRN, booking appointments, coordinating staff, supporting data collection, and the tracking and communicating of reporting windows and mandatory metric performance. The Patient Care Information Coordinator is an essential team member, providing administrative functions in a proactive and organized manner.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting Newborn Screening/Metabolic Genetic processes and workflows
  • Creating monthly, quarterly and annual reports, as necessary
  • Maintaining schedules, coordinating patient appointments and procedures
  • Supporting registration and flow of patients within the clinic.
  • Answering phone calls and responding to requests for information from families and healthcare staff.
  • Facilitating communication flow via telephone, paging, and computer access
  • Provide support to clinical team as needed
Qualifications
  • Bachelor s Degree in a related field (Medical Administration, Business Administration, Health Administration) preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years clerical or administrative experience in a health care setting. Experience in a hospital environment is preferred.
  • Scheduling experience is essential and medical terminology is preferred.
  • Accurate keyboarding skills and strong working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Experience with Epic system
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat is preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills that demonstrate an ability to anticipate potential issues and make suggestions
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills with both fellow colleagues and patients.
  • The ability to remain focused and prioritizes tasks in a busy and high stress environment.
  • Dependability and good attendance is essential.
