Overview
Casey House is a specialty hospital for people living with and at risk of HIV. We are seeking a compassionate, and empathetic Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to join our interdisciplinary team in delivering high-quality, client-centered care in a sub-acute care environment. This role is ideal for RPNs with experience in acute medicine, mental health, or emergency departments who are passionate about harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and health equity.
We currently have an opportunity for one (1) Registered Practical Nurse to join our Inpatient Unit on a regular, part-time basis.

Hours:
Up to thirty (30) hours per week. A combination of days and nights.
- Deliver direct client care to clients with complex medical conditions, including HIV, substance use, mental health challenges, and co-morbidities.
- Perform assessments, administer medication, monitor vital signs, and provide wound care.
- Collaborate with Inpatient Registered Nurses, Physicians, and allied health professionals to develop, implement, and evaluate individual care plans.
- Support clients through medical interventions, crisis stabilization, and transitions in care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with professional standards.
- Engage in reflective practice, performance evaluation, and continuous learning.
- Mentor, teach, and coach students, peers, and other regulated and unregulated health professionals.
- Adhere to infection prevention and control practices, including isolation and wound care procedures.
- Implement harm reduction strategies, including overdose prevention, substance use education, and distribution of harm reduction supplies.
- Foster a therapeutic, inclusive environment that respects client autonomy, dignity, and cultural diversity.
- Practice to full scope as defined by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
- Communicate effectively with clients, families, and the health care team.
- Participate in discharge and transitional care planning, advocating for the client needs.
- Function independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
- Apply evidence-based interventions and evaluate client outcomes and experience.
- Uphold professional, legal, and accreditation standards in all aspects of practice.
- Anticipate and recognize rapidly changing situations; and a client’s transition from stable to unstable, establish priorities, and take immediate appropriate action to collaborate and consult with the RN.
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Practical Nurse in good standing.
- At least 2+ years of experience in acute care, emergency, or medical-surgical nursing.
- Knowledge of and clinical experience in HIV, substance use, mental health, and trauma-informed care is a major asset.
- Excellent physical assessment, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving abilities.
- Up to date Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
- Proficiency in electronic documentation; knowledge of EPIC EMR is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
- Familiarity with community resources and commitment to person-centered care.
- Ability to provide health education tailored to client/family learning needs.
- Experience working with marginalized populations and commitment to anti-oppressive practice.
- Competency in a variety of clinical skills including (but not limited to) intramuscular injections, intravenous therapy, blood collection, wound care dressing, medication administration, etc.
- Excellent attendance, punctuality, and professional conduct record.
