* The Role:

** The successful candidate will provide support in a project in the area of climate change and human health. The scope of this practicum is to contribute to the design and undertake statistical analysis of the joint impact of wildfire-related air pollution and extreme heat on human health in Ontario using provincial health administrative databases. In addition, the student will assist the preparation of a manuscript for publication arising from this analysis.
Suggested placement start date:
May to August 2026

Please note:

• This position is only open to students who are currently enrolled in an academic program where the completion of a practicum placement is required.  
• This position is only open to students currently residing in Ontario and attending a Canadian academic institution. Preference will be given to students enrolled in Ontario-based academic institutions.  
• This is a paid placement.
** Educational objectives:
*** Gain knowledge and hand-on experience in designing a quasi-experimental study.
* Conduct statistical analysis with large-scale provincial administrative health databases.
* Develop skills in scientific writing.
** Proposed deliverables at the end of the placement:
*** Completion of statistical analysis as well as assistance with the writing of a peer-reviewed manuscript.
** Required education and experience:
** The ideal candidate will have:
* Completed year one of a two year epidemiology, environmental health, public health or related Master’s program with some training in epidemiologic and research methods.
* Strong skills in statistical data analysis using R or SAS.
* Familiarity with introductory statistics is required.

Full time, 36.25 hours per week Compensation Group:
Individual Contributor Compensation Range: $700.00 - $725.00
