Job Description

Under the direction of the Vice President - Underwriting, the Real Estate Analyst assists the Investments team with the underwriting and analysis of existing loans and potential financing transactions. The Real Estate Analyst must be able to efficiently and effectively articulate their analysis verbally and in written communications. A successful candidate will regularly be dealing with competing deadlines and shifting priorities due to the transaction-based nature of the role.

The Real Estate Analyst is expected to be able to effectively complete research tasks, property valuations, loan reviews and investment proposal write-ups in a timely manner with limited guidance and oversight.

ACM has a hybrid workforce model, with employees working in office a minimum of 3 days per week.

Key Responsibilities / Functions
  • Prepare valuations of real estate assets including analysis of pro-forma and historical property financial information, rent rolls, leases, operating statements, tenant sales performance, and other sources;
  • Assist in the review of borrower financial statements and business operations in the context of potential financing opportunities;
  • Provide comprehensive market analysis (including commentary on the economy, neighbourhood competitive factors, and comparable property discussions) to support existing loans and potential financing opportunities;
  • Assist in the timely preparation of financing proposals with focus on ensuring compliance with the company’s established lending guidelines and procedures;
  • Assist the Legal Administrator and Operations team in facilitating efficient and effective funding of mortgage investments;
  • Analyze existing portfolio loans for requests for assumption, renewals/extensions, subsequent advances and/or modifications and subsequently recommend appropriate action to management;
  • Work with members of the Investments/Operations teams on loan fundings, annual loan reviews and ongoing loan administration;
  • Monitor underwriting trends and provide appropriate feedback for improvements as needed;
  • Other ad hoc projects from senior management as requested.
What you bring to the team
  • Previous experience in a similar role strongly preferred – will give consideration to experience within a role with similar attributes in the commercial real estate sector, or similar analytical type roles in alternate industries
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study, or equivalent
  • Strong analytical abilities with a desire to learn a variety of underwriting tools including financial analysis, forecasting, market research, contract and legal document review, and asset valuations
  • Ability to research from disparate, and sometimes limited, information sources to support findings and recommendations
  • Demonstrated ability to consolidate large amounts of information into clear, concise and pertinent written and verbal communication in English
  • Excellent organization skills with the ability to handle multiple competing priorities
  • Strong attention to detail, proactive and a self-starter
  • First-rate interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint – experience with Microsoft Copilot and Dynamics CRM is a bonus
  • Ability to communicate in French is a bonus
