Job Description:
Our client is a highly entrepreneurial Canadian real estate developer specializing in ambitious urban, mixed-use projects that blend residential, retail, commercial, and community spaces in major city centres. The firm is led by an experienced leadership group that values collaboration, accountability, and trust.
This is a newly created, in-house Controller role offering rare visibility, ownership, and direct access to decision-makers. Reporting to the leadership team, you will play a critical role in building and strengthening the financial infrastructure of a growing real estate platform. This opportunity is ideal for a detail-driven, hands-on CPA with strong real estate and construction accounting experience who thrives in a lean, entrepreneurial environment where they can build processes, influence operations, and act as a true business partner as the business scales.
Reporting to the Partners, the Controller will lead the finance and accounting function and take full ownership of accounting, reporting, controls, and treasury across operating entities and active development projects.
Key responsibilities include:
Full ownership of accounting operations including GL, AP oversight, payroll coordination, and month-end/year-end close
Preparation of monthly management reporting and IFRS-compliant quarterly and annual financial statements
Managing lender, investor, and construction draw reporting, including covenant compliance
Overseeing accounting for operating properties, development projects, job costing, and capitalizations
Establishing and improving accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
Managing cash flow forecasting, liquidity, and banking relationships
Acting as primary liaison with external auditors and tax advisors
Driving system and process improvements, including heavy use of Yardi Construction Module
Presenting financial information confidently at board meetings
Managing an AP hire and working closely with Partners, development, and external stakeholders
You will interact regularly with the Partners, external advisors, lenders, and other real estate partners.

Job Requirements:
CPA designation (required)
Min 5-7+ years of progressive accounting experience with strong real estate and construction accounting exposure
Minimum 2–3+ years in a Controller or similar leadership capacity
Experience with Yardi, particularly the Construction Module and MS Office
Strong technical accounting knowledge of IFRS
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment
Confident communicator comfortable presenting financials to senior leadership and at board meetings
Comfortable working in an entrepreneurial, lean team where everyone wears multiple hats
