Supports the origination and structuring of trading products transactions for commodities clients, and is an integral part of a coverage team that maintains strong client relationships. Has expertise in a variety of sectors and has portfolio management experience managing new and existing relationships. Performs ongoing management of the portfolio. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Underwrites transactions which includes due diligence, financial analysis, structuring and leading document negotiations.
  • Monitors clients, industries and regulatory agencies for changes which may affect portfolio and business needs, and actions accordingly.
  • Reviews and continually monitors performance of existing accounts and client relationships.
  • Applies technical concepts to support deliverables.
  • Considers risk, internal controls and compliance as part of day-to-day accountabilities and adheres to policies and procedures.
  • Understands complexity of transactions and related risks (credit, market, operational, legal/compliance, etc.).
  • Is comfortable supporting a diverse portfolio of companies with competing priorities.
  • Is able to identify opportunities for efficiency and brings thought through solutions to management.
  • Supports the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Provides direction and feedback to Associates and Analysts; accountable for development and mentoring of juniors, where applicable.
  • Works independently on a range of complex tasks and is able to manage workflow with juniors.
  • Oversees Business Analysts, Analysts, and/or Associates and their credit monitoring workload and initiatives.
  • Key First line of Defence and credit recommender for Global Markets transactions/facilities.
  • Understands complexity of transactions and related risk (credit, market, operational, legal/compliance, etc.).
  • Qualifications:

  • Candidates with commodity industry knowledge are preferred.
  • Candidates should have 5-10 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of capital markets, trading products, corporation banking and applicable regulations is a requirement.
  • Excellent knowledge of portfolio management strategies and objectives.
  • Substantial experience in deal/transaction execution.
  • Technical proficiency in relevant computer applications.
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration & team skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong data management skills
  • Please note the base salary for this role is $160,000 CAD.

    Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
