Financial Manager
Salary: CA $100,000 - CA $120,000 + performance-based bonus

We are seeking a commercially sharp Cost Controller who understands how project performance flows through the financial statements and takes ownership of protecting margin. This role is not transactional. It requires a finance professional who can proactively identify when projects are trending over budget based on percentage of completion and implement corrective action before issues escalates.

Principal tasks and responsibilities include- Manage and oversee full project financial statements, including revenue recognition, WIP schedules, cost-to-complete forecasts, and margin analysis
- Ensure budgets remain aligned with percentage-of-completion accounting and proactively identify cost overruns
- Lead financial recovery strategies when projects trend over budget without defaulting to additional funding requests
- Provide detailed reporting and analysis on overhead, contingency usage, variances, risks, opportunities, and cash flow
- Partner closely with Project Managers and Construction Managers to challenge forecasts and protect profitability
- Track approved and unapproved change orders, ensuring financial exposure is properly reflected
- Develop and strengthen internal cost management systems, controls, and reporting frameworks
- Build dashboards and analytical tools to improve forecasting accuracy and executive visibility
- Establish KPIs and present financial performance and risk exposure to senior leadership, including VPs and CMs
- Implement governance and risk mitigation controls for long-term construction projects
- Lead and mentor project accountants and billing administrators
- CPA designation or degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in financial reporting and project-based accounting, preferably within construction
- Strong experience managing project financial statements and WIP reporting
- Deep understanding of percentage-of-completion accounting
- Proven ability to identify and resolve budget overruns through forecasting and cost discipline
- Strong analytical and variance analysis capabilities
- Experience presenting financial performance to senior stakeholders
- Governance, internal controls, and risk management experience in project environments
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
