Overview
What is the opportunity? As part of the Group Risk Management team, the Director is responsible for the primary adjudication and decision making with respect to the approval and amendment of new and existing credit commitments across RBC's Real Estate Development Lending Portfolio. Directors review and recommend generally large credit exposures facing a client base that principally includes top tier Canadian developers.
Experienced Directors provide transaction structuring advice to mitigate risks, comprehensively understand the risk profiles of transactions, and communicate recommendations to leadership including senior executives. You will focus on maintaining portfolio quality, alignment with the business, operational effectiveness, sharing best practices with business partners and working towards high level of efficiency in management of assigned portfolios, and enhancing the client experience.
- Work with the Team to maintain a strong risk profile, and manage the assigned portfolio to minimize losses and maximize return.
- Adjudicate Real Estate Development credit applications within delegated lending limits. Influence portfolio quality through strategic risk assessment, data quality, and knowledge-sharing.
- Deliver consistent decisions with clear rationale for support, amendments or declines.
- Ensure clients and colleagues are treated with respect; maintain a highly professional empathetic approach and strong working relationships. Seek opportunities to strengthen efficiency, accessibility and responsiveness of key risk processes and practices.
- Partner with stakeholders to achieve collective results. Act as a catalyst to ensure the team is strategically aligned with business strategies while maintaining the Bank's desired risk profile.
- Take initiative to proactively seek, demonstrate, and facilitate consistency in credit adjudication using other resources including other risk teams.
- Ensure accurate and consistent processes/controls are in place and followed to protect shareholder interests. Ensure credit transactions are adjudicated within Policy Guidelines, Standards, and Procedures and mitigate risks as necessary.
Must-have:
- 5+ years of commercial real estate experience with a preferred focus on Real Estate Construction and Development
- Strong communication, coaching, and conflict resolution skills
- Proven ability to make decisions under pressure and uncertainty
- Undergraduate Degree
Nice to have:
- Previous Real Estate experience within commercial or corporate banking
- In-depth knowledge of RBC Risk Policies, procedures & practices, Folios, etc.
- Proficiency with Bank Technology
- Post graduate qualifications (CFA, CMA, MBA, etc.)
