About the OpportunityOur client, a boutique investment firm in the heart of Toronto is seeking an Investment Operations & Trading Associate to support both the trading desk and broader operational functions. This role blends equity and fixed income trade execution with day‑to‑day investment operations, systems oversight, and reporting responsibilities.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a small, collaborative environment and is eager to grow within a hands‑on buy‑side setting.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee each step of trade processing—from idea generation and compliance checks to execution, system entry, and settlement.
- Execute trades across equities and fixed income while ensuring adherence to portfolio mandates and compliance requirements.
- Build, maintain, and rebalance pooled fund models and assist with related trading activity.
- Develop and update trade tools, spreadsheets, and modelling resources to support portfolio decisions.
- Monitor client account cash levels daily and execute necessary cash movements.
- Ensure all portfolio management system data—including pricing, corporate actions, dividends, and share data—is accurate and current.
- Work closely with the investment team to supply timely information on economic releases, securities data, models, and attribution using Bloomberg and other platforms.
- Prepare and verify weekly and monthly NAVs for pooled funds.
- Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual compliance reports with precision and punctuality.
- Assist with semi‑annual and annual financial statements for pooled funds.
- Coordinate proxy voting activities and ensure proper documentation.
- Collaborate with the portfolio administration team to resolve reconciliation, settlement, and trading issues.
- Maintain effective working relationships with brokers, custodians, and various external partners.
- Contribute to research discussions and the broader investment process where appropriate.
- Just 2–4 years of directly relevant financial industry experience, trading experience required.
- Experience on the buy-side—particularly equity trading—is highly preferred, background in investment operations is an asset.
- Completion of the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) is required.
- Advanced Excel, and overall experience with Microsoft Office applications, Bloomberg knowledge an asset.
- Familiarity with Infinite Systems (Harmony) or NBIN is a plus.
- Exceptional numerical accuracy, analytical thinking, and written communication abilities.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable working collaboratively within a small, team-oriented firm.
- Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to shifting priorities; extended hours may be required during peak periods.
