We are seeking experienced Bilingual French Intermediate Underwriters to support a growing Credit Adjudication team focused on Infrastructure and Real Estate Secured Lending
. This is an excellent opportunity to join a large financial institution with strong training, high exposure, and potential conversion to full time based on performance and business needs.
- Hybrid schedule with onsite presence once per week for the first five weeks of training
As an Intermediate Underwriter, you will support day-to-day underwriting operations by reviewing and adjudicating residential mortgage and real estate secured lending applications
. You will assess risk, make lending decisions within your approval authority, and collaborate closely with internal partners to ensure timely and high-quality outcomes.
This role requires strong underwriting judgment, comfort managing volume, and the ability to clearly articulate credit decisions.
Key Responsibilities- Negotiate, approve, decline, or recommend residential mortgage and real estate secured and unsecured applications within established lending guidelines and approval limits
- Review and assess income, down payments, property details, third-party reports, and supporting documentation
- Apply sound risk assessment and mitigation strategies, including making and documenting exception rationales
- Escalate applications exceeding authority limits with clear recommendations
- Manage high volumes while maintaining accuracy, quality, and turnaround targets
- Communicate effectively with internal business partners and external stakeholders such as insurers, appraisers, and solicitors
- Extensive onboarding and training program designed to set you up for success

- Potential extension or conversion to full time based on business needs
- 3 to 4 years of retail mortgage underwriting experience, primarily residential
- Bilingual in French and English
- Strong experience in Real Estate Secured Lending (RESL)
- Demonstrated decision-making authority in underwriting
- Experience reviewing income, down payments, offers, and supporting documentation
- Proven ability to assess and document underwriting exceptions
- Solid understanding of credit risk and risk mitigation
- Broker or underwriting course completion
- Strong Outlook and Excel skills
- University degree
- Familiarity with Canadian lending rules and regulations
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Strong attention to detail
- Adaptability and willingness to learn
- Hands-on underwriting decision experience is critical
- Candidates must be comfortable working with performance targets related to quality, productivity, and accuracy
- Previous experience in target-driven environments is strongly preferred
