They are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join their leadership team. This is a key role overseeing the full financial operations of the low-rise homebuilding business, working closely with the VP, Finance. The successful candidate will bring deep low-rise development experience, strong construction accounting expertise, and advanced proficiency with Newstar
.
- Oversee full-cycle accounting including AP, AR, payroll, general ledger, reconciliations, and HST filings
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and provide meaningful insights to senior leadership
- Manage job costing, WIP, land, development, construction, and sales accounting
- Lead interim and year-end closings, revenue recognition, and complex reconciliations
- Produce construction cost reports and perform variance analysis in partnership with project teams
- Drive budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and performance tracking
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax requirements, and audit processes
- Leverage advanced Newstar functionality to enhance reporting and system efficiency
- Lead, mentor, and develop a small accounting team while promoting continuous improvement
- Provide financial insight to support operational and strategic decision-making
- 5–7+ years of experience in a Controller or senior accounting role within low-rise homebuilding (required)
- Advanced Newstar experience (mandatory)
- CPA designation (CA, CGA, CMA, or equivalent)
- Strong technical knowledge of construction accounting
- Proven people leadership and team management experience
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail with strong Excel proficiency
