ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Commercial Mortgage Specialist supports the Commercial Underwriting department by managing the creation and administration of commercial mortgage loans. The role ensures underwriting conditions are met, security documents are properly handled and acts as a liaison between internal teams and external partners. Key duties include loan origination assistance, managing letters of credit, resolving remittance issues, conducting monthly servicer follow-ups, processing portfolio renewals and assumptions, posting fees, handling inquiries, and updating ownership records—all while maintaining accuracy, efficiency, and service standards.

In addition:

  • This involves collecting all necessary documents related to a transaction. These documents could include loan applications, credit reports, financial statements, identification documents, and any other relevant documentation required for the transaction.

  • Ensure all documentation complies with regulatory requirements and internal policies.

  • Collaborate with underwriting, funding and Portfolio Management teams, to ensure smooth and timely closing.

  • Provide a high level of service and support to internal and external business partners.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Internal and external commercial partners.

  • Ensure all underwriting conditions are satisfied to advance the file to the next stage and facilitate timely loan funding.

  • Manage and prioritize workload to achieve compliance with service level agreements (SLAs).

  • Loan Origination:
    Facilitate the initiation of commercial mortgage loans by gathering required documentation and client information.

  • Letters of Credit:
    Manage the issuance and reporting process for letters of credit.

  • Remittances:
    Resolve discrepancies and oversee arrears management for remittances.

  • Undertakings:
    Perform monthly follow-ups with servicers and secure all necessary approvals.

  • Portfolio Management:
    Process renewals and assumptions in strict compliance with established procedures.

  • Fees:
    Accurately record and reconcile various fees, ensuring timely payment.

  • Commercial Inquiries Inbox:
    Efficiently manage and respond to daily email inquiries.

  • Relationship Management:
    Maintain and update records of beneficial ownership, directors, officers, trustees, and settlors for all business partners in accordance with onboarding protocols.

WHAT WE REQUIRE:

  • University degree in business, finance or related discipline

  • Additional relevant accreditation(s), certification(s) are considered strong assets

  • 1-3 years experience working in an administrative/underwriting Commercial Mortgage Lending environment, from a recognized financial institution

  • Loan Origination Systems:
    Moodys Credit Lens, SAP

  • Software Proficiency:
    Microsoft 365 Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook), Microsoft Teams, One Drive, One Note, Power BI, Share Point

  • Attention to Detail:
    Ensuring accuracy in documentation and compliance.

  • Communication & Negotiation:
    Clear interaction with external partners, underwriters, and internal teams.

  • Organizational

    Skills:

    Managing multiple files and meeting strict deadlines.

  • Problem-Solving & Critical Thinking:
    Addressing discrepancies and resolving issues efficiently.

  • Customer Service Orientation:
    Maintaining strong client relationships and responsiveness.

Expected salary range is $55,000 to $65,000 per year.
