Corporate Finance Team Overview

The Corporate Finance team within Canadian Commercial Banking is part of BMO Financial group and covers both public and large private corporate clients operating in diversified industries. The team is responsible for marketing, managing, and monitoring large commercial loan portfolios, and also supporting credit requirements and cross‑selling efforts for other businesses including subordinated debt, equipment leasing, derivatives, cash management, and trade finance.

The team assesses financing opportunities of $25,000,000 or more, both on a syndicated and bilateral basis.

Job Overview

The Director, Credit Structuring is a leadership role responsible for delivering strategic credit solutions to complex commercial clients. This role provides daily operational support to grow market share and maximize profitability, while ensuring high‑quality service delivery and risk management.

Job Description
  • Assist the Managing Directors & Team Leads by playing a pivotal role in structuring and execution of customized credit strategies aligned with client needs and business objectives
  • Provide expert guidance on credit structuring, risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance across diverse industries
  • Act as a strategic advisor to senior leadership, contributing to portfolio optimization and business planning
  • Manage and mentor a team of associates and credit analysts, fostering a high‑performance, collaborative culture, supporting development, and managing poor performance
  • Play a key role in onboarding new team members—setting them up for success through knowledge sharing, integration, and hands‑on guidance
  • Collaborate with Credit Partners and be viewed as a Credit Leader with the capability of carrying and exercising an elevated discretionary limit
  • Champion a client‑first approach, ensuring timely resolution of complex issues and identifying opportunities to enhance the relationship
  • Drive operational excellence through process innovation, analytics, and continuous improvement. Assist MD & TL in monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across the portfolio and ensure timely follow‑up with appropriate action plans to address out‑of‑compliance items implemented and actioned by deal teams
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally to ensure consistent delivery of credit solutions and alignment with enterprise strategy
  • Identify issues, gaps and process improvements through open communication with all stakeholders
  • Demonstrate in‑depth knowledge of the bank’s policies, procedures and framework, serving as subject‑matter expert and a key resource for colleagues
  • Represent the Commercial Bank in internal and external forums, including regulatory and industry engagements
  • Contribute to enterprise‑wide initiatives and support broader strategic priorities as required
Qualifications
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in commercial banking, credit structuring, or related financial services
  • Post‑secondary degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Credit qualified, with deep expertise in credit principles, structuring, and risk management
  • Proven technical leadership and recognized as a seasoned expert in the industry
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making capabilities
  • Strong influence and collaboration skills, with a focus on cross‑functional teamwork
  • Demonstrated ability to manage ambiguity and deliver results in complex, fast‑paced environments
  • Thought leader in innovation, with a data‑driven approach to strategy and execution
