- Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the CFO and principal on all tax related matters
- Stay updated on tax law changes and evaluate their implications for the family office's financial strategies.
- Prepare reports and communications for family members and stakeholders regarding tax matters.
- Tax Compliance:
- Collaborate with external tax advisors and legal counsel as needed to ensure compliance and to leverage opportunities.
- Coordination and review of complex tax returns for individuals, corporations, trusts, and partnerships in multi jurisdictions (Canada/US)
- Review and coordinate with external advisors to ensure the timely filing of Canadian corporate (T2), trust (T3), and partnership (T5013) tax returns for all family entities.
- Review and coordinate with external advisors to ensure the timely filing of all US tax returns.
- Other regulatory filings in other jurisdictions as needed.
- Tax Planning:
- Providing tax advice on all transactions and reorganizations
- Lead tax planning initiatives to optimize the family office’s tax position
- Advise on the optimal structure for new projects and acquisitions.
- Monitor cross-border transactions, financing and intercompany balances and advise on tax planning opportunities to optimize tax positions and minimize risk.
- Maintenance of Corporate Records:
- Maintain a library of tax documents
- Prepare "memos to file" for reorganizations and other ad hoc transactions.
- Maintain and update legal entity organizational charts for all family entities.
- Collaborate with external legal counsel to ensure all transactions are properly documented and executed in a timely manner
- Ability to work with finance team on tax related matters and assist with journal entries, balancing and reconciliations for tax transactions.
- Audit Defence:
- Managing CRA audits and inquiries from tax authorities and serve as primary point of contact
About You
- CPA designation or equivalent.
- Completion of In-depth tax course or Mtax considered an asset
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in tax planning and compliance, preferably in a family office, private equity, or a similar environment.
- In-depth knowledge of US and Canadian tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with family members and advisors.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion in managing sensitive financial information.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively with principal, advisors, and external stakeholders.
Salary Range
$155,000 - $175,000 / year
