The Associate, Pension Investment Portfolio will be actively involved with the infrastructure team in completing new investments, managing existing investments, and conducting reporting and analytics. The role requires familiarity with the investment industry, including management, investment dealers or brokers, public pension plans, and knowledge of private markets.

Job Responsibilities
  • Analyzes market sectors to identify potential investment opportunities, prepares the Level 1 report outlining the positives and negatives of the opportunity, evaluates potential investments, identifies key areas of risk and opportunity, and is responsible for the financial modelling and analysis of funds, companies and transactions.
  • Prepares the Investment Advisory Committee / Pension Committee report summarizing expected return, risk, and opportunities, team history, strategy, and terms.
  • Develops relationships with potential target fund managers and key intermediaries; attends meetings with external private infrastructure managers to evaluate and assess responses to questions about track record, strategy, and lessons learned, and identifies potential investment opportunities; supports portfolio management of investments, including developing direct relationships with external fund and co‑investment management teams.
  • Assists Portfolio managers in the portfolio construction process to generate value‑added investment strategies.
  • Builds and maintains internal databases, financial systems, and models as well as streamlines operational processes.
  • Prepares quarterly investment reports for each investment in the portfolio (infrastructure); ensures data accuracy and timeliness of day‑position and risk reporting of bond portfolios; updates and manages pipeline reports used at weekly team meetings; reviews information memorandums and management presentations.
  • Supports the completion of the Level II Due Diligence Template for new investment opportunities alongside other team members.
  • Attends and contributes to Pension Investment team meetings, discussing reports, providing insights on whether the pension fund should buy or sell, and addressing questions related to public equities, debt, private equity, and infrastructure/fixed income.
  • Prepares portfolio company reviews and other internal reports; performs administrative tasks such as filing, binder creation for new investments, and other ad‑hoc administration and reporting as required; supports Pension Investment projects as needed.
Qualifications Education
  • Completion of post‑secondary (University) education, with a preference for business, economics, or engineering degrees.
  • Preference will also be given to candidates who have enrolled in or completed post‑secondary designations such as CPA, CFA, or CAIA.
Experience
  • 1 to 3 years of post‑secondary work experience is required.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
