Mission

As a Senior Game Designer - Combat, you’ll play a key role in shaping the long-term depth and scalability of our character collection mobile game. You will report directly to the Design Director and own the combat systems that drive player engagement, roster strategy, and combat meta. You will partner closely with product, engineering, art, and analytics to define, evolve, and balance the combat ecosystem.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Own the combat framework: define and evolve core combat rules, stats, damage formulas, scaling, and resolution systems.
  • Design character kits: create distinct, scalable abilities and roles that support squad-building depth and long-term expansion.
  • Develop systemic interactions: build and maintain elemental systems, synergies, and combat mechanics that create meaningful strategic choices.
  • Drive combat balance: tune and iterate using data and playtesting to maintain a healthy, evolving meta.

This is a high-impact role with ownership over one of the most critical systems in the game.

Requirements

We are looking for someone with 5+ years of game design experience, including ownership of combat systems on at least one shipped RPG, strategy, or character collection title. You’re a great fit if you have:

  • Strong combat systems knowledge:
    Deep understanding of combat mechanics, scaling models, stat systems, and long-term meta health, with the ability to balance depth, clarity, and business impact.
  • Mobile F2P experience, ideally in live ops environments.
  • Meta design experience:
    Experience contributing to or shaping a long-term combat meta.
  • Character design experience:
    Ability to design clear roles, abilities, and synergies within a broader combat ecosystem.
  • Strategic systems thinking:
    Experience designing combat systems that remain scalable and healthy for long-term live development.
  • Analytical and tooling proficiency:
    Strong skills in Google Sheets, experience working in Unity, and the ability to prototype and iterate quickly.
  • Clear communication:
    Ability to produce structured documentation and confidently present design decisions to stakeholders.

Bonus points:

  • Experience with roguelike or squad-based combat games.
  • Experience balancing progression or economy systems.
