Duties

and Responsibilities

As a CAD Designer, you will collaborate closely with project engineers to develop both preliminary concepts and final design solutions. Your role will include:

  • Translating engineering concepts into detailed plans, sections, and elevations to support construction and fabrication.
  • Producing accurate 2D and 3D CAD models in coordination with Project Engineers.
  • Providing technical input for the layout and specification of piping, structural, civil, electrical, and other components in industrial facilities.
  • Ensuring all designs adhere to established standards and integrating vendor-supplied documentation into project deliverables.
  • Supporting multidisciplinary teams by contributing to model reviews and maintaining design quality across disciplines.
Required Qualifications
  • Diploma in Design and Drafting (preferably CAD Technician program) or equivalent experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in piping and structural design for heavy industrial projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Plant 3D.
  • Skilled in 3D scanning and point cloud processing software (e.g., Autodesk Recap, Faro Scene).
  • Strong understanding of piping design, layout, specifications, and component selection.
  • Experienced in creating and interpreting PFDs, P&IDs, plot plans, Isometrics, pipe support drawings, and standard piping/structural documentation.
  • Familiarity with plant design protocols, drawing verification processes, and design control procedures.
  • Capable of interpreting vendor documents including equipment specs, structural shop drawings, and survey data.
  • Competent in drafting civil, structural, foundation, electrical, and instrumentation drawings.
  • Able to independently develop design details with minimal guidance.
  • Experience supporting 3D model reviews and assembling multidisciplinary models using Navisworks.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Willingness to work on-call and overtime during urgent situations.
  • Collaborative mindset with a strong work ethic and a touch of humor appreciated.
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Civil 3D is considered an asset.
