Your OpportunityStantec is currently seeking a self-motivated engineer with specialized expertise in sustainable design, energy efficiency, building energy simulation, and sustainability accreditations. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with Stantec’s Sustainability and Building Performance team in Toronto, and will be responsible for delivering simulation assignments, energy audits and studies, and integrated into the mechanical design team as needed. Opportunities for collaboration with Stantec offices across the globe will be available.
The qualified candidate will have a background in energy-efficient system design and simulation, energy analysis studies, and energy management & incentive programs. A strong knowledge of HVAC and building control systems, sound knowledge of lighting systems, building envelope design, energy conservation measures, greenhouse gas emission, and building energy simulation programs is expected. Exceptional communication skills, the ability to provide excellent client service and a commitment to sustainable design are essential for this position.
Experience with mechanical design, Revit and Canadian acute care healthcare projects would be an asset.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and deliver building performance and simulation assignments (whole building energy modeling, natural ventilation design, thermal comfort, etc.), and greenhouse gas emissions analysis for new construction and existing buildings.
- Prepare energy models using IES Virtual Environment in support of sustainability accreditations such as LEED and CaGBC Zero Carbon Building Standard L.
- Prepare design assist energy models and complete load calculations using IES VE.
- Develop preliminary energy estimations using Excel.
- Undertake economic analysis of energy conservation and carbon reduction measures including lifecycle cost analysis (LCCA).
- Identify strategies and solutions for clients that improve energy performance, indoor air quality, and thermal comfort.
- Apply building physics assessments to buildings and master plans (such as energy modeling, water budget analysis, day lighting analysis, thermal comfort, microclimate analysis, shading analysis, views etc.).
- Support technical report writing efforts including data visualization. Prepare and deliver presentations to clients and / or design teams.
- Propose future low energy solutions for new buildings including, potentially, on site renewable generation, demand side management, battery backup etc.
- Prepare OBC and NECB Performance Compliance Path documentation for Building Permit submissions.
- Perform energy audits and consulting support for BOMA BEST.
- Assist with mechanical designs as needed: concept level mechanical system design, preparation of schematics, preparation of design briefs, sizing and selection of mechanical equipment, geo-exchange sizing and design, sizing and layout of ducts and piping.
- Strong background in energy-efficient system design and simulation, day lighting, green building certifications, energy analysis studies, and energy management & incentive programs.
- Knowledge of climate change resilience and adaptation methodologies, whole of life asset strategies and design.
- Knowledge in whole life-cycle Carbon (WLC) Assessments, energy measurements, life cycle cost analysis, gap analysis and feasibility studies.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC and building control systems.
- Sound knowledge of lighting systems, energy conservation measures, greenhouse gas emission, and building physics.
- Ability to achieve Secret Clearance from PSPC.
- Eligibility for PEO membership as an EIT or P.Eng.
- BEMP, CEM, credentials are considered assets.
