Overview

Mulvey & Banani is a Toronto-based engineering consulting firm providing comprehensive and integrated building systems engineering services for electrical and electronic systems that are innovative, resilient, and adaptable for new building construction and re-purposing/renovation of existing buildings.

About the Role: We are looking for a detail-oriented and technically strong QA/QC Engineer to oversee and enhance quality assurance and control processes within our design disciplines. The successful candidate will play a critical role in reviewing design deliverables, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and client standards, and maintaining consistent design quality across projects.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in electrical engineering who is passionate about design excellence, technical standards, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain QA/QC procedures for electrical design projects in accordance with internal standards, codes (e.g., OESC, NEC, CSA, IEC), and client requirements.
  • Perform quality checks and technical reviews of electrical drawings, specifications, reports, and calculations at various design stages (Concept, Schematic, Design Development, Construction Documents).
  • Verify adherence to quality protocols and ensure consistency across drawing packages, naming conventions, and engineering documentation.
  • Collaborate with electrical designers and engineers to resolve design inconsistencies or technical concerns during internal reviews.
  • Support project teams in preparing quality submissions for client reviews, permit applications, and tender documentation.
  • Conduct peer reviews and maintain tracking logs of QA/QC findings and corrective actions.
  • Assist in developing checklists, templates, and standard operating procedures to improve design quality and efficiency.
  • Support post-design activities such as construction reviews, RFIs, shop drawing responses, and site issue resolution from a QA/QC perspective.
  • Contribute to internal audits, lessons learned, and quality training sessions for the engineering team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical design or consulting engineering, with a focus on QA/QC or technical review.
  • Strong understanding of building systems (e.g., lighting, power distribution, fire alarm, grounding, life safety) in commercial, institutional, or industrial projects.
  • Familiarity with Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), and other relevant standards.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical drawings, design specifications, and technical reports.
  • Experience with design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit (BIM), and electrical calculation software.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and technical writing abilities.
  • Familiarity with QA/QC in BIM workflows and model-based design coordination. Exposure to project delivery models like P3, Design-Build, etc.
