Position: Health and Safety Advisor (Night Shift)

Company Description

Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projets are undertaking the design, build, and finance the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel (South Civil) package. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030 and will strengthen Ontario’s economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.

What is the Project?
  • A six‑kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River).
  • Stations:
    • One above‑ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station.
    • Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations.
    • Four new underground stations – King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown.

Job Description

The Health and Safety Advisor champions safety across all OTG construction sites. In this role, you’ll ensure compliance with regulations, conduct site inspections, deliver safety training, and lead incident reporting and investigations. You’ll maintain accurate safety documentation, promote awareness through meetings and campaigns, and support emergency response planning. Collaborate with project teams to drive continuous safety improvements and uphold the highest standards for employees and contractors.

Salary range: $80,000 CAD – $100,000 CAD, plus additional benefits.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safety Compliance:
    Ensure all OTG construction sites comply with local health and safety regulations, codes, and industry standards.
  • Safety Inspections:
    Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of construction sites, equipment, and processes to identify potential hazards.
  • Safety Training:
    Assist in the development and delivery of safety training programs for employees, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Incident Reporting:
    Facilitate incident reporting and investigation processes, including near‑miss reporting, and work with teams to implement corrective actions.
  • Safety Documentation:
    Maintain accurate safety records, including incident reports, safety inspection findings, and training records.
  • Safety Communication:
    Promote safety awareness by facilitating safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety campaigns.
  • Emergency Response:
    Assist in the development and implementation of emergency response plans.
  • Safety Improvement:
    Identify opportunities for safety improvement, provide recommendations, and collaborate with project teams to implement enhancements.
  • Contractor Safety:
    Evaluate the safety performance of subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring they meet OTG’s safety standards.
  • Regulatory Updates:
    Stay informed about changes in health and safety regulations and communicate relevant updates to project teams.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in health and safety roles, preferably in construction or infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of local health and safety regulations, codes, and industry standards.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage and influence others.
  • Proficiency in safety management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Commitment to promoting a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
