This role is well suited to an engineer who is technically strong, organized, and comfortable working in a client-facing consulting environment.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Engineering
Support the planning, design, and delivery of rail infrastructure projects, including commuter rail, light rail (LRT), heavy rail, freight rail, and transit systems
Prepare and review engineering designs, drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical reports
Apply applicable Canadian standards and codes (e.g., Transport Canada, AREMA, CSA, provincial standards, and client-specific requirements)
Assist with constructability reviews and value engineering exercises
Support interface coordination between civil, track, structures, signals, systems, and other disciplines
Project Delivery & Coordination
Assist Project Managers with scope, schedule, budget, and risk management
Coordinate with internal multidisciplinary teams, subconsultants, and external stakeholders
Participate in meetings with clients, contractors, rail authorities, and regulatory agencies
Support contract administration activities, including RFIs, change requests, progress reporting, and site reviews
Construction & Field Support
Provide engineering support during construction, including site visits and inspections as required
Review shop drawings, method statements, and contractor submissions
Assist in resolving technical issues arising during construction
Quality & Compliance
Ensure work complies with applicable standards, safety requirements, and quality management systems
Contribute to internal technical reviews and quality assurance processes
Required
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline
3–8 years of relevant experience working on rail or transportation infrastructure projects
Experience in a consulting engineering environment
Knowledge of rail design standards, construction practices, and project delivery methods
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams
Preferred
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration in Canada
Experience working with Canadian rail authorities, transit agencies, or major infrastructure clients
Familiarity with design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Micro Station, Open Rail, or similar
Experience supporting construction-phase services
