Our client, an established engineering and professional services organization is seeking an Intermediate Structural Engineer to support a major airport infrastructure program in Canada.
This role offers the opportunity to work on critical facilities within a highly regulated environment, contributing to the planning, design review, and construction oversight of complex structural systems.
This position is 100% on-site and based in Toronto .
Your Role
Reporting to senior engineering leadership, the successful candidate will provide technical expertise across the lifecycle of airport infrastructure projects, with a focus on structural engineering compliance, coordination, and delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing technical advice and subject-matter expertise related to structural engineering during planning, design, and construction phases
Reviewing structural designs to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements
Conducting compliance reviews for renovations, alterations, maintenance activities, and new construction works
Performing site inspections and providing non-resident engineering support during construction activities
Reviewing contractor and designer submissions, including drawings, calculations, material approvals, and shop drawings
Evaluating alternative technical proposals and advising on feasibility, constructibility, and alignment with project requirements
Coordinating structural engineering inputs with civil, architectural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines to ensure integrated delivery
Supporting resolution of RFIs, field issues, deficiencies, and close-out items
Monitoring structural design progress and providing status updates, risk identification, and issue escalation to management
Preparing technical briefings and progress reports for senior stakeholders
About You
You are a technically strong engineer with experience working in regulated, large-scale infrastructure environments and are comfortable operating in a client-facing role.
Qualifications and experience include:
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering is considered an asset
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario or eligible for registration
Approximately 7+ years of relevant structural engineering experience
Proficiency with structural analysis and design software (e.g., ETABS, SAP
2000, SAFE, or similar)
Experience assessing existing structures and supporting rehabilitation or retrofit projects
Strong working knowledge of Canadian structural design codes and standards, including the National Building Code of Canada and CSA standards
Experience designing or reviewing structures in steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and timber
Familiarity with asset management principles as applied to structural systems
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to participate in technical meetings and workshops
