Description:
We are looking for a collaborative and resourceful Senior Data Engineer and will be responsible for leading the architecture, design, analysis, and implementation within a successful and experienced team. You'll apply your depth of knowledge and expertise across modern and legacy data platforms to develop data ecosystems that meet business requirements and align with enterprise architecture goals and standards. The organization has embarked on a journey to modernize, build, and support a next generation Snowflake based data platform to meet growing data needs and enable AI and GenAI capabilities that drive business value.

This role reports to the Senior Data Engineering Manager.
Location - Markham (Hybrid - 3 days office) subject to change at any time.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and delivering scalable data solutions across the enterprise:
• Advocate for engineering standards and process efficiencies to ensure high quality, timely delivery.
• Lead development of complex, high performance data pipelines using tools like dbt Core/Cloud.
• Design and review data models (conceptual, logical, physical) to meet business and technical requirements.
• Own and maintain robust, reusable SQL, Python, Shell, and Terraform code.
• Produce detailed low level engineering solution design documents aligned with technical standards.
• Create and review data test plans to ensure alignment with requirements.
• Promote the importance of data catalogs, data governance, and data quality practices.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement effective solutions for technical data issues.
• Lead scrum ceremonies and foster an agile mindset.
• Mentor Data Engineers and Associate Data Engineers to elevate engineering practices.
• Collaborate cross functionally to deliver high quality, customer centric data products.
• Deliver technical presentations and provide constructive feedback on designs.
• Plan and execute release activities to ensure smooth, high performance delivery.
• Support hiring by designing interview challenges, conducting interviews, and participating in selection decisions.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
• 8+ years of experience in data engineering with proven delivery of 3+ end to end impactful data projects.
• Deep expertise with relational databases (Snowflake, Postgre
SQL, Amazon Aurora), big data platforms (Hadoop), and No
SQL (Mongo
DB).
• Advanced proficiency with visualization tools such as Snowsight, Streamlit, Qlik, and SAP Business Objects.
• Expert level skills in SQL, Python, Glue, dbt, Shell, and Terraform, with a focus on maintainability and performance.
• Experience with orchestration and pipeline tools including Zena and AWS Managed Airflow.
• Strong resilience and adaptability in ambiguous or high pressure environments.
• A customer first, data driven mindset.
• Strong collaboration, communication, leadership, and stakeholder influencing abilities.
• Insurance domain knowledge is an asset.
• Experience operationalizing AI/ML models is an asset.
