Main Functions

Role Context

This role is a technical function of product and innovation development, supporting feasibility analysis, and process optimization for new products moving from R&D toward commercialization.

The Business Process Engineer works closely with product development and R&D to ensure that product concepts are technically viable, economically sound, and scalable. The role is execution-oriented and supports both internal innovation and externally sourced technologies.

Role Overview

The Business Process Engineer focuses on technical feasibility, process modeling, and R&D-to-commercial integration. This role supports product pipeline development by evaluating new processes, identifying scale-up risks, and contributing to techno-economic and regulatory assessments required for successful launches.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Feasibility & Process Analysis

  • Perform process modeling and techno-economic analysis for new products and technologies.
  • Evaluate technical feasibility of product concepts, including scale-up considerations.
  • Identify process bottlenecks, optimization opportunities, and integration risks.
  • Support development of mass balances, energy balances, and cost assumptions.
  • Product Pipeline & Launch Support

  • Support product pipeline development from early feasibility through launch readiness.
  • Work closely with R&D to translate lab-scale results into scalable process concepts.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to assess plant-level integration and operability.
  • Contribute technical inputs to business cases and launch decisions.
  • R&D to Commercial Integration

  • Support project execution from lab to pilot to commercial deployment.
  • Assist with technical documentation needed for internal approvals and customer-facing use.
  • Regulatory & Compliance Support

  • Provide technical support for regulatory assessments tied to product launches.
  • Work with regulatory experts to ensure process assumptions align with compliance requirements.
  • Support data generation and documentation required for regulatory submissions where applicable.

    Technical skills

    Required

  • oBachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, biosciences, or a related technical field
  • o Minimum 5 years’ experience in process engineering, R&D, or applied technical roles
  • o Proven experience conducting process modeling and techno-economic analysis
  • o Technical experience in fermentation or biofuels production processes
  • An asset

  • o Experience conducting feasibility assessments for new products or processes
  • o Advanced proficiency in a variety of software tools (M365 Suite, Click Up, Benchling)
  • o Ability to translate abstract technical concepts into plain language
  • Personal abilities

    Required

  • o Strong organizational and record keeping skills to keep multiple projects moving smoothly.
  • o Excellent time management to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • o Strong communication skills to build relationships and share ideas effectively.
  • o Ability to collaborate as part of a team and work together to achieve goals

  • o Willingness and ability to travel internationally for up to 8 weeks per year
