Your Mission

Hydrostor is seeking a Project Engineer – Area Lead to join our growing team in Toronto, ON. This role is central to the successful execution of our long‑duration energy storage projects, providing leadership and continuity across engineering activities. Reporting to the Vice President, Project Engineering, you’ll collaborate closely with the Project Engineering Director and cross‑functional teams to ensure safe, timely, and cost‑effective project delivery.

You’ll also serve as a key liaison between engineering and other project functions, including commercial, procurement, regulatory, and construction.

Your Day‑to‑Day Adventures

  • Provide leadership and continuity across engineering activities, contributing to the advancement of project engineering and delivery.
  • Identify and implement improvements in engineering execution, influencing internal and external resources to achieve best‑for‑project outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Hydrostor teams, the project owner’s engineer, and EPC/EPCM partners to ensure that design, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning meet Hydrostor’s technology requirements and the project’s time, cost, safety, and performance goals.
  • Manage technical processes, including design reviews, interface coordination, risk management, change control, and deviation tracking.
  • Represent the engineering function across other project domains, including commercial, project management, procurement, regulatory compliance, due diligence, and construction/commissioning.
  • Provide clear and consistent reporting on engineering progress, risks, and mitigation strategies to project leadership and stakeholders.
  • Work with the Technology team to resolve deviations from the basis of design and ensure design reviews are properly documented.
  • Support the development of frameworks for quality assurance, schedule adherence, and alignment with business objectives.
  • Contribute to other projects and strategic initiatives across Hydrostor’s global portfolio as needed, with flexibility and collaboration.
  • Promote a fit‑for purpose approach to engineering, balancing safety, innovation, and value throughout the project lifecycle.

What You Bring

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent; eligible for registration with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • 7–10 years of relevant experience in engineering, project management, fieldwork, and QA/QC.
  • Experience with safety and sustainability design principles.
  • Familiarity with equipment used in power generation, chemical processing, or oil and gas facilities.
  • Proven ability to manage engineering inputs across procurement and construction phases.
  • Strong communication skills across diverse audiences, including leadership, clients, vendors, and contractors.
