Job Overview
Hubbell Water Enclosures is seeking a talented and driven Design Engineer to support the development and optimization of injection molding tooling for our water enclosure product lines. This role is critical to ensuring our products meet high standards of durability, performance, and manufacturability. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in tooling design and a strong understanding of plastic part engineering within a high-volume manufacturing environment.
We are seeking candidates located in either Edmonton or Toronto. This position will have a a mix of remote flexiblity and onsite presence and require approximatey 10% travel to the US for business meetings.
A Day In The Life
Design and develop injection molds and tooling for water enclosure components using CAD software (Solid Works preferred).Collaborate with product development, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure tooling supports functional and production requirements.Conduct mold flow analysis to validate and optimize tooling designs for performance, cycle time, and material efficiency.Support tooling vendors during fabrication, testing, and troubleshooting phases.Drive continuous improvement in tooling design to reduce cost, improve quality, and enhance manufacturability.Maintain accurate documentation including drawings, BOMs, and engineering change notices.Participate in design reviews and provide technical input on material selection and part geometry.Ensure tooling designs comply with Hubbell’s safety, quality, and environmental standards.What will help you thrive in this role?
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or related field.Minimum 3 years of experience in injection molding tooling design, preferably in industrial or utility products.Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Solid Works, Creo, or equivalent).Experience with mold flow simulation tools (e.g., Moldex3D, Autodesk Moldflow).Strong understanding of thermoplastics, tooling materials, and mold construction.Familiarity with DFM/DFA principles and GD&T.Excellent communication and project management skills.Preferred Qualifications:
Experience designing tooling for large, outdoor-rated enclosures or utility products.Knowledge of UL, NEMA, or ANSI standards related to water enclosures.Experience working with domestic and international tooling suppliers.
